This expert mission was performed between 19-23 June 2017 in our Ministry with the participation of an Italian expert, Guido Bonati from CREA (Council for Research and Economics in Agriculture). The other participants were from Managing Authority and ARDSI and also from Department of Land Rehabilitation and Irrigation Systems.
The aim of the mission was to inform the Turkish authorities on EU best practices on water conservation methods in order to help them in tackling problems related to over-pumping of ground water and waste of irrigation water.
In particular the expert presented the recent implementations with regard to groundwater use and the current conservation methods in agriculture according to the Water Framework Directive. He compared various methods focussing on their applicability in Turkey and reviewed the methods for on the spot controls and data resources as well as the ones on calculations.
Finally, the expert provided recommendations on the draft fiche for Agri-environment - Water Conservation sub-measure as part of the Turkish IPARD Programme.
